The brothers Tapes banded together in the winter of 2003 to salvage what they could of their sanity from the frozen tundra that is Minneapolis. After years spent honing their musical stylings, and releasing a self-recorded EP in 2004, the collective developed a sound that Splendid describes as "a hybrid that resembles Low fighting it out with My Bloody Valentine...eclectic, style-defying stuff."

Our brave, altruistic mustache growers will gather in facial hair solidarity, collect their donations for the "Make a Wish Foundation" and and submit themselves to final judging by a rigorous Mustache Review Panel. A king shall be named. Beer will be consumed. Fun will be had.
Also that night, there will be a reception for the "Hair Show" -- two dimensional works by various artists featuring iconic and ironic hair-doos and dont's.

Islands sprouted out of the kindred x-ray vision of Nick Diamonds and Jâaime Tambeur, two rag-tag youths from the weird side of the tracks. Previously, theyâd worked together in sludge-crust band "the unicorns" and, after some time apart, met up in L.A. on the set of Woody Allenâs film "Melinda Melinda Melinda". Unexpectedly, theyâd both been separately cast in the pivotal "restaurant" scene, in small "walk-on" roles opposite each other. Their fierce competitive spirits kept the two from getting too close, but once the final cut of the film surfaced and they found both of their parts had been left on the cutting room floor, their dormant friendship had been rekindled, cloaked in mutual pity and despondency. After much deliberation, they agreed to return to the snowy climes of Montreal and jump headfirst into the often heartbreaking world of music.

Hailing from Philadelphia, Man Man are an astonishingly original quintet who have found the perfect berth for their gypsy-swamp-rock-carny-soul sound at the equally singular Anti- Records, home to other such illustrious iconoclasts as Tom Waits, Nick Cave and Neko Case. Man Man have been understatedly described by NPR as "quirky and mischievous... often with old-world instrumentation and plenty of theatrics."

The music of Brooklyn's Yeasayer is an eclectic, genre-bending journey into pop, druggy rock, Middle Eastern and African musics, folk, and dub.

Lord T & Eloise bring "AristoCrunk" back to Bottletree for a School's out for Summer BLOWOUT!! Lord T & Eloise may best be described as more of a musical performance-art act than recording artists. Visuals are intrinsic to the appeal of this high-concept act -- Lord T in Victorian garb and Eloise's gold-plated skin -- white blue-bloods rapping about their old-money wealth. Genetically engineered over generations of obscure royalty, Maurice Eloise XIII, Lord Treadwell, and Myster E rap's royal blood. They have emerged from the past to save the present, waiting for the right moment to spread their gospel of the good life and save rap music!

The Historical Conquests of Josh Ritter (the new album he's touring on) catches the Idaho musician in the midst of a radical transformation. While last year's The Animal Years had Ritter thinking about the state of the nation, his latest offering finds him pining for Joan of Arc, Calamity Jane and Florence Nightingale, all of whom seem to be stuck together in the belly of a whale, a la Jonah.

Langhorne Slim is a young folk singer, born Sean Scolnick on August 20, 1980, based out of Brooklyn, New York. Originally hailing from Langhorne, Pennsylvania, he graduated from the Conservatory of Music at Purchase College, part of the SUNY system.
He began to gain public notice through several years of touring with the Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players and an appearance at the Bonnaroo Music Festival. His song Electric Love Letter was recently number 5 on the Rolling Stone editor's top ten picks. The song was also in the movie Waitress. He has recently been seen on tours with Cake, The Avett Brothers, Murder By Death, Jeffrey Lewis, The Violent Femmes, Lucero, and Rocky Votolato, and he will arrive in Birmingham fresh from his tour in support of Josh Ritter. This show is for ages 21 and up. Tickets for this show are $8 in advance and $10 at the door.

The Cave Singers is the new project of Derek Fudesco of Pretty Girls Make Graves/Murder City Devils, Pete Quirk of Hint Hint, and Marty Lund of Cobra High. They released their debut full length last fall on Matador records. Here is the mystery of Seattleâs Cave Singers: They never listened to much folk music, they never intended to play folk music, and more importantly, their guitarist never picked up the instrument until recently. Yet, this strange trio is writing and performing some of the most hypnotizing folk music we have today.

This is an ALL AGES show. Tickets are $8.

Something of an anomaly on the Sub Pop roster, the Supersuckers bore a limited surface resemblance to grunge, but they were a party band at heart, donning cowboy hats and kicking out a gleefully trashy brand of throttling, rockabilly-flavored garage punk. Their lyrics were a raucous, over-the-top celebration of all the attendant evils of rock & roll -- sex, booze, drugs, Satan, and whatever other vices the band could think of, all glorified with tongue planted firmly in cheek. Save for an abrupt and temporary detour into hardcore honky tonk, their approach stayed relatively consistent through the '90s, as did their quality control.
